Ridge crest locations crests along the spine of the Green Mountains are the most prominent areas with strong wind windpower. Ridge crests in extreme northeastern Vermont, and in western Vermont near the New York boundary also have zones of good and very good wind resource

Massachusetts Wind Energy Maps

Massachusetts has wind resources suitable with large scale wind power generation. Exceptional-to-outstanding windpower is positioned on the northern portion of Cape Cod and good and very good areas are found in the southern part of Cape Cod and along the shore of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. Particular ridge crest areas of the Berkshires in western Massachusetts also have outstanding wind supply.

Rhode Island Wind Power Map

Rhode Island has wind resources suitable with large scale production. The good wind windpower area is positioned in extreme southeastern Rhode Island along Block Island Sound. Additional Class 3 areas are found along the coast in southwestern and south-central Rhode Island.

Connecticuit Wind Map

the highest wind resources in Connecticut are found on the ridge crests in the northwestern part of the state. There are some Class 3 areas on the southern shoreline along Long Island Sound.

New Jersey Wind Power

The highest resource areas are found along the Atlantic Ocean and Delaware Bay coastal areas, and on the ridges of western and northwestern New Jersey. These ridge tops may be subject to high wind shear and particular regions could have higher wind power class values at 80 m than shown on the 50-m diagram.

Pennsylvania Windpower

Pennsylvania has wind supply suitable with large scale wind farms. The good-to-excellent wind resource areas are concentrated on ridge crests in the southwestern portion of Pennsylvania, located southwest of Altoona and southeast of Pittsburgh.

Delaware has wind supply consistent with utility-scale wind farms. The good and excellent wind supply is positioned along the coasts of Delaware Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, especially from Cape Henlopen to the Maryland edge.

Maryland Wind Power

Maryland has wind resources consistent with large scale production. Some areas of the map are estimated to have good and very good wind resource. These are the barrier islands along the Atlantic coast, the southeastern shore of Chesapeake Bay, and ridge crests in the western section of the state, left of Cumberland.

West Virginia Wind Power Companies

West Virginia has wind resources consistent with utility-scale wind farms. The good and excellent wind supply areas are concentrated on ridge crests in the eastern part of the state just south of a Martinsburg-Clarksburg line. There are scattered areas along these ridge crests that are estimated to have outstanding-to-superb resource.

Virginia Wind Energy Map

This diagram explains that Virginia has wind resources consistent with utility-scale wind power generation. Several areas of the map are estimated to have good and excellent wind supply. These include the Atlantic coast along the Delmarva Peninsula and the Virginia Beach area, the ridge crests in the north-central section of the map, and ridge crests near the borders of Left Virginia and North Carolina.

North Carolina Wind Energy Map

This chart displays that North Carolina has wind supply consistent with large scale production. The good and excellent wind supply areas are concentrated in two zones. The first is along the Atlantic coast and barrier islands. The second area is the higher ridge crests in western North Carolina.

Tennessee Wind Energy

Tennessee has wind supply suitable with utility-scale wind farms. The good and very good wind resource areas are concentrated on ridge crests in the eastern section of the state near the North Carolina edge. Two notable areas are the ridges southeast of Knoxville and south of Johnson City. There are areas along these ridge crests that are estimated to have outstanding-to-superb resource.

Kentucky Wind Energy Map

the highest wind resources in Kentucky are found on the ridge crests in the southeastern corner of the state. Class 3 areas are concentrated in the Black Mountain region near the Virginia perimeter.

Wind Power in Hawaii

Hawaii has wind resources consistent with utility-scale production. Good-to-excellent wind resource areas are fairly evenly distributed throughout the islands. The largest contiguous areas are located on the western parts of Molokai and Lanai, on the western and southern shores of Maui and Kahoolawe, and on the northern and southern tips of Hawaii. There are also localized high wind resource areas on the islands and Kauai and Oahu.

Wind Energy Map of Ohio

the highest wind resources in Ohio are found across the northwestern one-third of the state. Class 3 areas concentrated near Lake Erie with the largest continuous area extending from Sandusky towards Toledo. Other Class 3 areas are positioned northwest of Columbus on relatively high elevations. Particular locations in the Class 3 areas could have higher wind power class values at 80-m than shown on the 50-m diagram because of possible high wind shear.

Indiana Wind Power Map

the highest wind resources in Indiana are found across the northern half of the map. Class 3 areas are located across the north-central region of Indiana with the largest neighboring area being northwest of Lafayette and northwest of Indianapolis. Other Class 3 areas are located east of Muncie. Particular areas in the Class 3 areas could have higher wind power class values at 80 m than shown on the 50-m map because of possible high wind shear.

Michigan Wind Energy

This diagram indicates that Michigan has wind resources suitable with utility-scale wind power generation. The diagram shows that the onshore utility-scale wind supply in Michigan are concentrated along the immediate shores of the Great Lakes (especially Lakes Michigan and Superior) and on offshore islands. The Great Lakes themselves have good-to-outstanding wind windpower. A large area of Class 3 windpower is positioned northeast of Saginaw on the "thumb" of the map.

Wind Energy in Illinois

The wind supply information is presented in two formats. Both formats show the wind windpower using NREL's standard wind power classification system, in relation to transmission lines and major cities. Version 1 shows the wind windpower at all levels throughout the map, and Version 2 highlights the best areas suitable for large scale wind energy development which are primarily located in central and northern Illinois. At least five prime wind zones are identified (southeast of Quincy)
