As a renewable resource, airstream is organized according to wind power classes, these are created from typical airstream velocity. The classes span from Class 1 (the slowest) to Class 7 (the highest). In general, at 50 meters , windpower Class 4 or higher is useful for creating wind energy with big turbines. Class 4 and higher are deemed good energy supplies. Special locations in the Class 3 areas could have greater wind power classes at 80 meters than shown on the 50 meter map as a consequence of possible high wind shear. Due to the improvements in equipment, some locations in the Class 3 locations may appropriate for large scale wind power development. The Department of Energy's Wind Program and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) developed a new wind power diagram for the state of New Hampshire. This resource map shows wind speed estimates at 50 meters above ground level and shows the supply that may perhaps be used for wind energy companies. Yet to come plans are to present wind power estimates at 30 meters, which are advantageous for locating small wind power opportunities. |
