A renewable source of energy, wind is organized according to wind power classes, which are derived from normal airstream speeds. The classes range from Class 1 (the least) to Class 7 (the maximum). Ordinarily, at 150 feet , windpower Class 4 or greater is effective for making wind energy with large turbines. Class 4 and over are deemed high-quality energy supplies. Individual locations in the Class 3 zones might have greater wind power class values at 80 meters than displayed on the 50 meter map as a consequence of possible high wind shear. Due to the advances in machinery, a number of regions in the Class 3 regions may appropriate for utility-scale wind power company development. The Department of Energy's Wind Program and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) made a fresh wind supply plan for the state of Maryland. This resource chart shows wind power estimates at 50 meters above the ground and displays the power that may perhaps be used for companies in wind power. Future plans are to provide wind speed estimates at 100 feet, which are informative for identifying smaller wind turbine opportunities. |
