tennessee wind power map
This chart displays that Tennessee has wind resources suitable with utility-scale wind power generation. The good and very good wind resource areas are concentrated on ridge crests in the eastern section of the map near the North Carolina boundary. Two notable areas are the ridges southeast of Knoxville and south of Johnson City. There are areas along these ridge crests that are estimated to have outstanding-to-superb windpower.

A renewable resource, wind is categorized according to wind power classes, these are created from average airstream velocity. These classes vary from Class 1 (the lowest) to Class 7 (the maximum). On the whole, at 150 feet , wind power Class 4 or higher is effective for creating wind energy with large turbines. Class 4 and above are deemed excellent energy supplies. Specific locations in the Class 3 regions might have greater wind power class values at 80 meters than displayed on the 50 meter map as a consequence of potential elevated wind shear. Given the advances in technology, some regions in the Class 3 regions may appropriate for utility-scale wind power development.

The Department of Energy's Wind Program and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) developed a fresh wind power map for the state of Tennessee. This windpower diagram displays wind speed estimates at 150 feet above the ground and explains the supply that may possibly be used for companies in wind power. Future goals are to provide wind power estimates at 100 feet, which are informative for locating small wind power opportunities.
