A source of clean energy, airstream is organized according to wind power classes, which are made from average air velocity. These classes vary from Class 1 (the slowest) to Class 7 (the peak). On the whole, at 50 meters , windpower Class 4 or higher is effective for producing wind power with larger turbines. Class 4 and above are deemed excellent resources. Special areas in the Class 3 areas could have superior wind power classes at 80 meters than displayed on the 50 meter map as a consequence of potential elevated wind shear. Because of the improvements in technology, some locations in the Class 3 regions may appropriate for large scale wind power company development. The Department of Energy's Wind Program and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) produced a fresh wind power plan for the state of Indiana. This windpower map displays wind speed estimates at 150 feet above ground level and explains the power that might be used for wind energy companies. Coming plans are to make available wind energy estimates at 100 feet, which are valuable for locating small wind turbine opportunities. |
