A renewable energy source, wind is organized according to wind power classes, these are based on usual airstream speeds. The classes range from Class 1 (the slowest) to Class 7 (the top). Ordinarily, at 150 feet , wind speed Class 4 or higher is functional for making wind energy with substantial turbines. Class 4 and higher are considered excellent energy supplies. Individual areas in the Class 3 areas could have greater wind power classes at 80 meters than revealed on the 50 meter map as a result of possible elevated wind shear. As a result of the improvements in technology, some zones in the Class 3 areas may suitable for large scale wind power company development. The Department of Energy and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) made a fresh wind supply chart for the state of Arkansas. This wind map shows wind power estimates at 50 meters above ground level and displays the supply that could be used for windpower companies. Future goals are to present wind energy estimates at 100 feet, which are constructive for identifying small windpower opportunities. |
